As much as I am a small town, beach girl, I am absolutely in love with big cities. Namely, New York City. There is something about the color, noise, and excitement of NYC that draws me in and has me walking dozens of blocks on end without even noticing! I’ve had the pleasure of making a few day trips to the city in the last couple of weeks to visit friends I have there– it is only a 40 minute ferry ride which is a really easy commute! I thought I’d share a little of what I did while I was there. The adventures are limitless!
The first day trip to New York included a stop at Laduree. These authentic Parisian macaroons have stolen my heart and made me into a macaroon addict (I blame the trip to Paris my mom and I took when I turned 13…). It was an extremely hot day so you can imagine how thrilled I was to find out that they are now selling macaroon flavored gelato and sorbet! I am trying to contain my excitement, really.
I got the strawberry sorbet with a strawberry macaroon in the middle! Absolutely so delicious!
(it’s also a plus that it matched my nails!)
Here are the macaroons I bought the day after my visit. Yes, those are my sheets and yes I was eating them in bed. Laduree macaroons deserve to be eaten in bed.
We got a map of Central Park (#tourists) and walked all around. I was amazed by how calm and picture-perfect the park was. The lakes, small paths, and green vegetation is such an interesting contrast to the skyscrapers right beside it all! It was a breath of fresh air among the hustle of the city. We even visited the zoo where we got to see the sea lions eat their lunch! Not going to lie– the sea lions were pretty adorable.
We brunched at Sarabeth’s right alongside Central Park. You can sit outside along the street and people watch, which is one of my favorite things to do (I’m nosy, and I love seeing other people’s outfits!). It was the perfect spot to be on a gorgeous day– and their fresh-squeezed juice is delicious!
I had to stop by the Kate Spade store on Madison Avenue. It had FOUR floors of vibrant colored jewelry, bags, and dresses. The decor was phenomenal. Here’s a look at the hot pink couches and the wire bow banister overlooking the bottom floor of the store. Soo when can I move in?!
My second day trip to NYC started off with brunch at Serendipity. I call these my Serendipity shorts because they perfectly fit the charming and whimsical atmosphere that Serendipity entails.
We just HAD to get the famous frozen hot chocolate that Serendipity does the best. It was like desert in a drink! I couldn’t get enough of it!
I got to meet up with this pretty lady, one of my good friends from Long Beach Island, at Dylan’s Candy Bar and then we got cupcakes at Magnolia’s Bakery in Bloomingdales. All bets are off when I go to the city– I love finding all of the best sweets and treats!
I love all of the bright flowers that line the streets at markets and grocery stores! Yet another part of the city that is so vibrant and full of life!
Before making these trips, I looked into some of my favorite bloggers who live in New York to get an idea of what they love most about NYC. I got awesome tips from The College Prepster and The Rockstar Diaries. Definitely check out their favorite NYC restaurants and happenings if you plan on visiting!
It is always a joy to spend the day in the city with good friends, good food, and lots of sights and shopping! I’d love to hear your favorite spots to visit in New York City!
